HRMS Solutions Broadens Utility Industry Client Base

by | Apr 6, 2017

power-lines utility industry KAMO Electric Cooperative, Inc. (KAMO Power), like all rural electric cooperatives, had a unique set of goals and requirements to consider when it came time to find a new human resource management system. With 10 facilities in two states, substantial employee growth in recent years, and an outdated HRIS, the Vinita, Oklahoma based organization chose HRMS Solutions (HRMS) to guide them in the HR technology selection process and to provide the Epicor HCM implementation services. HRMS has significant experience working with companies throughout the United States in the utility industry. This experience and knowledge of the critical human capital management needs of electric cooperatives was instrumental in KAMO choosing Epicor HCM to manage their critical HR needs.

Comprehensive performance and training capabilities are especially important to utility companies, and KAMO Power staff liked the ability Epicor HCM (Human Capital Management) offered to automatically create employee training goals based upon job requirements. Via employee self service, the Epicor HCM software empowers employees to enroll in the necessary courses to meet those goals. This not only replaces many of the utility’s existing manual processes, but also gives HR Director Cindy Allen the opportunity to improve the company’s performance management processes, as goals can be integrated into employee performance reviews.

“It was important for KAMO to be able to utilize technology for career development and succession planning,” said Allen. “The Epicor system will enable us to provide employee and manager self-service capabilities in a variety of functions.  A comprehensive HRMS is critical to our department’s ability to control staffing costs without compromising the respect and trust of the employees we serve.”

HR Specialist Sharon Collins explained that Epicor HCM was selected over three other competitors in part due to Epicor HCM’s depth of overall product functionality, sound recruiting and onboarding tools, and the opportunity to automate labor intensive HR processes such as benefits administration and open enrollment. “It was important to the KAMO Power team that our system be hosted on premise,” explained Collins. “And we could not have asked for a better guide through the process than the HRMS sales executive. We appreciated his excellent industry and product knowledge, along with his responsiveness and professionalism.”

KAMO Power is a Generation and Transmission (G&T) rural electric cooperative formed in 1941. The cooperative is owned by and provides power supply to 17-member distribution electric cooperatives who in turn serve over 300,000 member customers in northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. The organization’s mission to provide safe, low-cost, reliable power to its members is dependent not only on its high voltage transmission network and communications system, but on the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff and oversee planning, operations and maintenance programs.

“When you consider not only the number of homes and businesses that rely on the work these employees perform, but also the high degree of specialized skills and training they require, you can understand why the right HCM, properly implemented, is so critical to utility industry organizations such as KAMO,” said Sales Executive Brad Congdon.
